The secluded patch of Fijian paradise has been something of a local secret, until recently.

Its transformation to Vatia Beach Eco Resort began in earnest in April 2014, under the management of a trio of Spaniards.

They were seeking a photographer to capture the project in its initial stage of development.

Which is how I found myself in Fiji, sandwiched between 25 kilograms of luggage - most of it breakable - and searching for a bus north from Nadi International Airport.
